________

We sat there all day watching nothing happen, it was nice. I wrote some half-ass lines in my journal and crossed out even more. Dye had set up a canvas and seemed to be waiting for the right light. He was sketching some flowers. Marsh had a beautiful water feature that was the center of his meditation area. Dye sat there patiently. I walked over and asked him about the piece. " Would you rather paint giant mechanical crabs or flowers?" He laughed, "It's all the same really, it's about the connection to the muse, right?" I nervously agreed. It felt like I accepted a duel of some kind. "I don't think we have the same muse." He took his brush, "Yes we do, you dug your toes into her before your attack. She is the shadows you watch while trying to sleep. She represents the beauty you see in women. She's the one that wants you to write poetry." I felt my face blush. I was hoping the light was behind me so he couldn't see it red. He smiled, "She's the red in your face."

I watched Dye paint the flowers. It was a ballet. His mixture of solvent and pigments danced between all the crevices and valleys. The green moon had peaked out from the hills, and he captured her tint on everything. It made everything look green, but the blue was intense, and there was plenty of white. Trickery and the romance with his muse were both on display.

I sat back and giggled at the idea of writing a poem. My routine of self-doubt came to my rescue. I went over what Dye had said to me. The thought of the Green Goddess and me, Ha! I thought. If she wanted me, then she wanted a coward. A yellow coward. Dye suddenly stood up. He snapped, "CrearcreaciĆ³n!" It sounded Spanish but probably made up. He put his brush down and slowly walked backward. I stood up and met him from his perspective. I tried to get myself out of my slump and attempted a weak accent, "Good work old man!" He smiled, "I'm calling it, "She only wanted yellow."
